Bike 2 BAUS 2015
9am on Saturday 13 June and we all met outside BAUS HQ at the Royal college of Surgeons in Lincolns Inn Fields, 14 of us cycling to the BAUS annual conference in Manchester to raise money for The Urology Foundation (TUF). A total of 220 miles and more than 7000 feet climbed over two and a half days.
We were a mixture of experiences and fitness levels, with a wide age range, but all with the same aim to arrive at the GMEX conference centre by Monday lunchtime and raise as much money for TUF as we could. Thanks to a very generous donation from Intuitive Surgical, including designing and printing the bike shirts, we started by putting on this matching cycling attire and posing for the initial photos.
An hour later we had passed down the Edgware road through Watford and out past the M25. By our lunchtime stop in Milton Keynes, the rain that had been forecast for Sunday had come in, soaking us as we continued up the A5 past Northampton and into our first night stop in Rugby, where we were met with our room keys by Neil Brown our support van driver.
Day 2 and the weather had cleared, 85 miles from Rugby to Stoke, more country roads over the day covering some very picturesque English countryside. The evening left us with some time for well-earned refreshment.
Day 3 was just a short 50 mile ride into Manchester being met by the TUF team and others who had helped sponsor us. A big thank you goes to our main sponsors, Intuitive Surgical, Teleflex, Lawmed and Buris Indemnity, to all who rode with us and a special thanks to Neil Brown our top support van driver. Bike 2 BAUS 2016 will happen ending in Liverpool next June, so book the weekend off.
